Volunteer Opportunities At Vinson Hall Retirement Community

Vinson Hall—Independent Living

Computer Training

Many of our residents are eager to learn how to make the best use of their computers. Volunteers will provide both group classes and individual instruction on topics such as using Microsoft Office programs, working with email accounts (set-up, sending & receiving, attachments), and search engine applications.

Grounds Maintenance

Residents take great pride in the beautiful gardens, trees, plants and flowers that surround Vinson Hall. Volunteers are needed twice a week to help maintain this beautiful setting and provide a home-like environment for the residents. Our main priority is watering on a regular basis.

Arleigh Burke Pavilion—Assisted and Nursing Care Living

Scheduled Activities

Residents participate in an abundance of engaging activities to enrich their daily lives. Volunteers are needed to assist residents to and from event locations and help with tasks during arts & crafts, sensory events and various games. Join in the fun and share your thoughts and experiences with our residents.

Music Program

Our residents enjoy music of all types. We need volunteers to share their talents and would welcome you to play during a party, or schedule a special event performance. Individuals and groups are welcome.

Other Programs

Bingo games are a big hit with our residents. Volunteers can help by calling the winning numbers or your group can host a game. Or you can enjoy Personal Visits with our residents, assisting them with reading, phone calls and letter writing.

The Sylvestery—Dementia Support Living

Games

Residents play everything from bridge to poker to dominoes to simple board games. Some like more active games,
such as catch and balloon volleyball.

Volunteers will organize and lead the games, (which are scheduled daily in the late afternoon), and gently remind residents of the procedures or rules.

Arts & Crafts

Residents enjoy activities such as beading, collage or decorating objects. Volunteers are needed daily to schedule, organize and guide these late afternoon activities for residents.

Performers

Our residents are enthusiastic about music of all kinds and would welcome new performers of all ages. Sing-a-long performances work especially well. We are also forming a chorus and need someone to lead a weekly choral group using familiar music.

Other Programs

Volunteers are also invited to join residents for an hour of knitting and conversation, lead a small group once a week baking pastries in our dining area kitchen and call our twice a week Bingo games.
